Description: This vintage chrome postcard features a commanding view of the "SOLDIERS' AND SAILORS' MONUMENT" in Indianapolis, Indiana. The front of the card prominently displays the tall, intricate monument with its various sculptures and fountain elements, set against a clear blue sky. In the background, the cityscape of Indianapolis is visible, showcasing other buildings, including what appears to be a Woolworth Co. store. The reverse side provides historical details: "Completed in 1901, it is the third highest shaft in America". It further notes that "Many huge statues surround its base and overlook its fountain pools. A museum occupies its basement. An observation platform, reached by an elevator, is near its 284 1/2 foot peak. Located in Monument Circle, in the heart of the downtown area, it was built and is maintained by the State of Indiana". The postcard was "Pub. by Van Buren Color Inc., 4033 So. Meridian St., Indianapolis, Ind." and "MADE BY DEXTER PRESS, INC. WEST NYACK, NEW YORK". It has the number "97792-B".
